Château Sainte Sabine is one of the most romantic wedding venues in Burgundy for couples dreaming of an elegant French château celebration surrounded by countryside, historic architecture, and incredible views. Set in the heart of Burgundy between Dijon and Beaune, this luxury château hotel offers the kind of setting many destination wedding couples are searching for: refined, private, and unmistakably French. Did I mention that the 8-hectare park even has a lake?
In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about planning a Château Sainte Sabine wedding, from the atmosphere of the venue and guest accommodation to ceremony options, practical logistics, and what makes it such a beautiful place for wedding photography.
As a France wedding photographer, I always love venues that feel both visually stunning and genuinely enjoyable for couples and guests, and Château Sainte Sabine is one of those rare places that offers both. Whether you’re planning an intimate wedding weekend or a larger destination celebration in Burgundy, this venue is well worth considering.
Full disclaimer: I am a photographer but in 2027 I will also be a bride. After visiting this venue once as a photographer, I fell so in love with it that I even considered it for our own wedding! I would be so excited to capture your wedding day at this inspiring place.
The château Sainte Sabine is located in between Dijon and Beaune (ca. 40 minutes drive from each of them). It is also 2hr drive from Lyon, and 3hr drive from either Paris or Geneva.
There’s no direct train to the village of Sainte Sabine. The nearest train station is Dijon, which is well connected with both Paris and Lyon. The high-speed train links Paris to Dijon in only 1.5hrs. However, from Dijon to the Château there is no public transportation, so private transport is required
There is a helipad on the property. Private flights can also land at the Dijon airport (65 km) and Dole airport (105 km)
Originally built at the end of the 16th century after the Wars of Religion, Château Sainte-Sabine has been transformed over the centuries by several noble families, evolving from a Renaissance fortress (yes, even with a moat and a drawbridge that were later removed) into the elegant countryside château it is today.
In the 20th century, the property even served as a girls’ boarding school before later becoming a hotel. Following a beautiful restoration in 2011, Château Sainte-Sabine reopened as a luxury château retreat, now offering couples the perfect romantic setting for a wedding in the heart of Burgundy.
A great advantage for destination weddings is that the Château Sainte Sabine also operates as a boutique hotel. The chateau offers 23 guest rooms with 4-star amenities and views towards either the Auxois valley or the Sainte Sabine village and its 15th century church. The bright and colorful wall tapestries contribute to the festive mood and stay true to the aristocratic heritage of the property.
The newlyweds stay in the Salle de Garde suite, a 1,200 sqft apartment with soaring 16.5 ft ceilings, intricate woodwork and a huge neo-Gothic fireplace.
Privatizing the entire venue is required, including use of all guestrooms and public spaces. The venue rent varies depends on season: €25k from April to May, or €35k from June to September.
The restaurant boasts large bay windows with panoramic views towards the village and the surrounding park. In the kitchen, a young and talented chef combines the regional gourmet tradition with a modern twist. For your wedding dinner, the restaurant can accommodate either a table-served setting or a buffet style dinner.
Indoors, the restaurant can accommodate a maximum of 70 seated guests. The brunch on the terrace can fit up to 50 guests.
In 2027, the published prices are ca. €130 per person for a three-course dinner menu (starter, main, cheese, dessert), excluding drinks. For your welcome cocktail, cold and warm canapés are offered at €5 per piece (2027). On the morning after your celebration, the restaurant is offering brunch for €65 per person (2027), which includes hot drinks, juice, and water. Brunch is served on the terrace outdoors. The restaurant can also print the menus for your guests for a small surcharge (€2 per guest)
Booking the venue for your wedding implies privatizing the entire property for 24hrs, including all guestrooms and public areas, from 3pm on the day of your wedding to 3pm on the following day. You are also required to reserve the on-site restaurant catering for the welcome cocktail, wedding dinner, and morning brunch with them.
The total price includes the rent of the venue (varies depending on season) and the catering paid separately. The payment is split into a 30% deposit upon booking, 45% due three months before the wedding, and the final 25% payable on the day after the wedding.
Even if the entire castle is privatized for your event, the venue still limits music after 3am.
If your guests are traveling for their destination wedding, surely they will be curious to explore the immediate area as well.
Guests interested in culture and history might enjoy visiting the Abbey of Fontenay, a former Cisterican abbey built in 1118 in the Romanesque site. Today, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. (62 km, 1hr driving)
Other points of interest include the 12-th century castle Château de Bussy-Rabutin and its gardens.
If you feel like exploring picturesque villages in Burgundy, you should definitely start with the village and castle of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois nearby (ranked as one of the most beautiful villages in France), and then look up the medieval villages of Semur en Auxois and Flavigny-sur-Ozerain.
History afficionados (as well as fans of Asterix) might appreciate the open-air museum MuséoParc Alésia, which commemorates the battle of Alesia between the Gaules and Julius Ceaser in 52 B.C.
